Play with the light effects generated by the surface details of the glass blocks that make up the new parish complex of Santo Volto of Gesù, in the Magliana district of Rome. A building capable of melting the strong aesthetic aspect characteristic of contemporary architecture, with a mysterious and intimate atmosphere through the use of glass blocks and an expressive use of colour.

The load bearing structure of the building, a cylinder divided into two uneven levels which alternates with magical balance is made up of large concrete walls painted in strong colours and sections consisting entirely of glass blocks. Approximately 4,750 customized glass blocks made by Seves glassblock were used to complete the parish facade. |
In fact, Sartogo Architetti Associati, entrusted with the design of the new parish, approached Seves glassblock to develop an exclusive and innovative glass block with the aim to create a structure made entirely of unique characteristics. And so a new glass block was born with dual features: two different glass designs, smooth and bevelled, coupled together to provide soft, diffused light inside and guarantee privacy from the outside.
Yet again, the turning point and key inspiration for this project was the Maison Hermès in Tokyo, where Seves in collaboration with Renzo Piano, made a glass block of extraordinary dimensions (42,8cm x 42,8 cm) consisting of two different glass designs, smooth and bevelled. The ‘Tailor Made’ collection gives architects and designers the opportunity to custom design glass blocks using different glass designs on both sides.
This innovative ‘Tailor Made’ service has been made possible by a generous 2.5 million euro investment by Seves into the developement and perfection of a revolutionary production process that makes the customization of glass blocks achievable.
As in every case, Seves glassblock faced the hugh design challenge by offering its own know-how and avant-garde technology as well as enthusiasm and positivity to materialize the new glass block. Now, the Italian international leader in glass block production offers itself up to the world of design as the only company in the industry willing and able to create special ‘Tailor Made’ and exclusive custom designed glass blocks. As an element of harmony, glass blocks by Seves are capable of integrating into any context adding value and elegance. |
