The new seves glassblock multibrand concept store opens in Rotterdam

A few months after the opening of the second single-brand flagstore in Zaragoza, Seves glassblock is taking a further step towards strengthening its presence over the European territory: an exceptional address in the Netherlands to admire the innovative scope of the glass block, which is capable of combining excellent technical and construction properties with aesthetic and decorative potential as yet unexplored, all in a live setting.

With its general headquarters in Florence and a production and commercial network spread all over the world, on 14 October 2009 the company, which is world leader in the glass block sector, inaugurates the new Seves glassblock Multibrand Concept Store in Rotterdam, created in association with Mondi Agenturen, the distributor for The Netherlands, who has decided to focus on the material to distinguish the display format of the new space.

This was not a chance decision, and openly reveals the desire of Seves glassblock to be physically present in one of the countries that are most attentive to design and one of the main markets of reference, thanks to the wellbeing and economic growth that have characterised it over the last decade, with a permanent showcase in the second city of the Netherlands, where many international architecture studios are based.

Inside an old complex converted into a showroom and luxury restaurants looking out onto a covered public thoroughfare, the new Multibrand Concept Store is structured as a continuous long itinerary, allowing customers to discover the endless forms, colours and dimensions of Seves glassblock production.
Marking the entrance and attracting the gaze is a central S-shaped wall made with R09 bricks, that is, the rectangular format of Pegasus, the glass block “with wings” that was patented at the start of the new millennium and enables minimal sized tile joints to be used (less than 2mm) resulting in “all-glass” walls. While the curved wall screens two living environments, a relaxation area with sofas and a dining or meeting room, display cases on the walls illustrate the various dimensions, colours and finishes in which the product is available: from the pastel shades of Pegasus, for spaces with delicate and refined colour tones, to the metallized finish of Pegasus Metallizzato, with bright, lively colours, making these products ideal for high-level contemporary architecture and design.

The second environment proposed projects visitors into a bright, colourful universe: the protagonist of the scene is a multi-coloured maxi-panel devoted to the glass blocks with strong colour tones of the Mendini Collection, the latest innovation from Seves glassblock to join the Design line of the brand, summed up by the Pegasus glass block with wings. Thanks to a special procedure executed manually brick-by-brick to maintain the purity of the colours unchanged, the colours palette of Pegasus is enriched by 16 new ultra-contemporary tones, selected by Atelier Mendini to liven up contemporary domestic landscapes with new shades and visual sensations. Presented in the 19x19x8cm format with smooth glass design and metallized finish, characteristics that make the shades even more defined, full and striking, the pieces of the lively new collection are arranged in a captivating composition of interlinked rings in the colours ruby, amber, jade, malachite, amethyst and coral, standing out against a white background.
The itinerary continues with two spearheads of the Seves glassblock catalogue: the Dorico brick created in association with Rafael Moneo for the Jesuit University Library of Deusto in Bilbao, which has an outer side with grooves in relief evoking the jagged motif of Greek Doric columns, and the Q33 block of the Ginza Collection, which revisits on a reduced scale the strong aesthetic impact of mass and volumes of glass scenographically produced with the Q42 used by Renzo Piano in the Maison Hermes in Tokyo, which appears in the catalogue as the large format of Pegasus.
If two walls of Dorico and Q33 identify the third display area, two screens shield the fourth and final zone, which is decorated with proposals for bathrooms and kitchens; the screens are made using the Q19 100% Black block of the Mendini Collection: it is a dense, bright, impactful black, which confer an unmistakably glamorous atmosphere on the spaces.
The layout has been prepared ad hoc to show the largest number of products in contexts that are as real as possible, through furnishings that reproduce different parts of the home and mosaic statues in dialogue with the bright, contemporary surfaces of Seves glass blocks.

This is the showcase chosen by Seves to establish a direct dialogue with the Dutch world: on one hand with the general public, so sensitive to the factors of light and transparency of the glass block, on the other with local designers, who include a number of major names in contemporary architecture and landscaping, with a view to consolidating and enhancing the results already achieved, and to communicate even more strongly the message of lightness, colour, transparency, flexibility and high performance associated with Seves glassblock.
